National Colocation Provider

Modernizing Visibility Across a National Colocation Portfolio

Challenge

A leading U.S. colocation data center provider was expanding by acquiring multiple legacy facilities, creating opportunities to improve facility performance, operational visibility, and long-term energy efficiency.

Many of the acquired sites relied on aging equipment and limited controls infrastructure, making it difficult for facility teams to gain a clear, unified view of critical operations. Power, cooling, lighting, and alarm systems operated with limited integration, reducing visibility into overall data center performance and increasing complexity.

Without a more connected approach, the organization risked inefficiencies, inconsistent oversight, and a limited ability to support evolving customer requirements across its growing portfolio.

Solution

Mantis Innovation partnered with the client to create a more integrated and manageable facility environment through a focused controls modernization strategy.

The approach included three key steps:
  1. Resolve legacy controls issues through system bug remediation and ongoing controls maintenance.
  2. Upgrade aging lighting infrastructure with energy-efficient LED technology.
  3. Integrate power, cooling, alarming, lighting, CRACs, PDUs, and RPPS into a comprehensive Building Management System (BMS) with redeveloped controls and custom graphics.

By establishing a single-pane-of-glass view across critical building systems, the client gained clearer operational awareness and a stronger foundation for predictive maintenance, facility performance optimization, and future growth.

Results

The modernization effort delivered greater control, enhanced visibility, and a more adaptable operating environment across legacy data center facilities. With integrated systems and centralized monitoring, facility teams can more effectively manage critical infrastructure while supporting changing customer occupancy requirements.

The new lighting controls also enable operators to quickly regroup and rezone spaces through handheld devices, improving flexibility as customer needs evolve over time.

Performance Outcomes:
  • Single-pane visibility across critical facility systems
  • Short project payback period achieved
  • Integrated power, cooling, lighting, and alarming systems
  • Mobile lighting regrouping and rezoning capability
  • Improved facility control across legacy sites
