Department of General Services

Greening a 400-building, 20M sq ft portfolio to meet increased emission reduction standards

dgs feature solar and green roof

 PROJECT SNAPSHOT

Mantis Innovation supported the City of Washington, D.C. in its carbon reduction initiative by identifying 107 viable buildings for energy efficiency improvements using roofing and energy data. We coordinated a broad sustainability strategy that included implementing daylighting to reduce energy consumption, installing rooftop solar for green power generation, enhancing insulation for improved energy efficiency, converting dark roofs to cool roofs for better heat reflection, and adding vegetative roofs for stormwater management. Additionally, we trained a local workforce to maintain these sustainability measures and supported community programs like Roofs That Teach to educate students on sustainable building practices.

 PROJECT SNAPSHOT

A national retailer with 16,000+ stores faced challenges managing multiple building systems after rapid expansion. Mantis developed a business case for a centralized Energy Management System (EMS), outlining key processes, tools, and personnel needed for implementation. We led an RFP to select the right hardware and software vendor and are guiding the installation and rollout. The EMS enables remote monitoring and control of HVAC, lighting, and refrigeration, streamlining operations and enhancing efficiency across the portfolio.

City of Lima, Ohio

Employ reverse auction for electricity and gas procurement in lieu of a costly RFP process

city of lima, ohio

 PROJECT SNAPSHOT

Mantis Innovation helped the city of Lima, Ohio reduce energy procurement costs by implementing a reverse auction process, eliminating the need for costly RFP development. This approach broadened competition among suppliers, optimizing third-party electricity and natural gas procurement. By streamlining the procurement process, Mantis Innovation significantly lowered the city's energy expenses while also eliminating the recurring costs associated with RFP events.
