Danbury Hospital

Illuminating Better Outcomes Across the Hospital

Challenge

Danbury Hospital, a regional healthcare provider serving patients across western Connecticut, sought to modernize aging lighting infrastructure across three facility floors to improve energy efficiency, support long-term facility performance, and deliver a turnkey solution for active healthcare environments with minimal disruption to daily operations.

Like many healthcare organizations, the facilities team faced the challenge of reducing energy consumption and operating costs while maintaining safe, comfortable, and well-lit spaces for patients, staff, and visitors. Continuing to rely on older fluorescent lighting systems risked higher utility expenses, unnecessary energy waste, and reduced performance in critical areas of the facility.

Mantis Innovation partnered with the hospital to develop a practical path toward improved lighting performance and energy savings.

Solution

Mantis delivered a turnkey lighting and controls upgrade designed to improve energy efficiency, reduce operating costs, and strengthen long-term facility performance.

The project followed a clear, three-step approach:
  1. Upgrade aging lighting systems: Replace or retrofit 950 fluorescent fixtures with energy-efficient LED technology throughout key hospital spaces.
  2. Optimize lighting performance: Install intelligent controls, occupancy sensors, daylight sensors, and high-end trimming to better align lighting use with building needs.
  3. Streamline implementation: Manage engineering, design, sourcing, installation, and project oversight through a turnkey delivery model that minimizes operational burden on hospital staff.

Results

The completed project helped Danbury Hospital avoid the ongoing costs and inefficiencies of aging fluorescent lighting while creating a more energy-efficient healthcare environment with lasting operational benefits.

By combining LED technology with advanced lighting controls, the hospital reduced energy usage, captured utility incentives, and accelerated its return on investment. The result was a more sustainable facility that supports operational performance and financial stewardship.

Performance Outcomes:
  • $98,000 in utility incentives captured
  • 132,300 kWh reduced annually
  • $24,700 in annual energy savings
  • 2.8-year project payback achieved
  • 94 MT CO2e avoided annually
